Applying for disenrolment

Are you thinking about interrupting your studies or ending them altogether? We recommend that you consider you situation and weigh up your options. Is it best to end your studies or simply interrupt them? Do you have any other alternatives?

Your department, academic director or course of studies will be happy to advise you on alternatives and help you make a decision. Should you decide to interrupt or discontinue your studies at the HWR Berlin, you have the option of applying for disenrolment. Your membership of the HWR Berlin will end upon disenrolment.

How can I disenrol?

You must submit a written application for disenrolment to the Office of Applications, Admissions and Enrolment in which you must specify the day on which disenrolment is to take effect. The earliest possible day on which disenrolment can take effect is the day of submission. The latest possible day is the end of the current semester.

Which documents must I submit in addition to the application for disenrolment?

  • Applications for disenrolment must be accompanied by signed confirmation of discharge from the university library. This is proof that you have not borrowed any more media and have paid all fees.
  • If you are disenrolled before the end of the current semester, you must also submit your valid Campus Card and your current semester ticket.

If you decide to disenrol within the re-registration period or before the start of the semester, having already paid the semester fees for the coming semester and having been issued with new study documents (CampusCard etc.), you can only disenrol if you return all your study documents (CampusCard and all confirmations of enrolment). Otherwise, disenrolment will not take place until the end of the new semester.

You must submit an application for refund of semester fees that you have already paid. If you disenrol up to a day before the start of the semester (1 April or 1 October), any semester fees you have already paid can be refunded – minus an administrative fee of 50 euros.

In the event of disenrolment from the start of the semester, a decision will be made on the pro rata reimbursement of fees and contributions based on the date of disenrolment. The decision on the (pro-rata) reimbursement of the semester ticket at the start of the semester is made by the Student Council Semester Ticket Office at the HWR Berlin:

Fees levied for late payment will not be refunded.

You will receive a certificate confirming disenrolment as soon as the process has been completed. You are responsible for informing your employer, the relevant authorities etc.
Contact your health insurance provider as soon as possible after disenrolment for advice on insurance cover. We will inform your health insurance company that you are no longer a member of the HWR Berlin.

Students at the HWR Berlin are issued with a personal e-mail account for the duration of their studies. This will be deactivated 120 days after disenrolment and deleted a month later.

Deactivate e-mail forwarding

You will continue to receive all emails sent to your e-mail address or the HWR Berlin mailing lists within these 150 days. To stop receiving e-mails from the HWR Berlin, please delete any forwarding mechanism to your private email account.
