Wie lässt sich Berlin auf dem Bildschirm erleben?

Der Kurs „Berlin as a Place of German History, Politics and Culture“ findet bei mir seit 2012 traditionell on the spot statt: In bestimmten Stadtvierteln, in diversen Museen, in einigen davon wie der Gedenkstätte Hohenschönhausen mit Zeitzeugen und Zeitzeuginnen als Guides. Wegen der Corona-Pandemie musste binnen weniger Wochen umdisponiert werden. Nun zeigte sich, dass persönliche Kontakte sich auszahlen, erst recht, wenn andere Quellen verschlossen sind. Zeitzeug/innen und Expert/innen (u.a. vom VDI, aus der Museums-, Kunst- und Kulturszene) wurden von mir in die Online-Sitzungen eingeladen und im passenden Moment zugeschaltet. Wichtige Exponate wurden am Bildschirm gezeigt und in die (wirtschafts-) und (sozial-)historischen Zusammenhänge eingeordnet.

Noch besser als sonst war es möglich, auf die individuellen Bedürfnisse und Fragestellungen der Studierenden aus fünf Universitäten in fünf Ländern, den Niederlanden, Slowenien, der Slowakei, Australien und Südafrika, einzugehen. Das gelang wunderbar, und die Online-Lehre erscheint, zur Unterstützung eingesetzt, dafür sinnvoll – auch wenn das Live-Erlebnis vor Ort zumindest bei diesem Kurs natürlich unschlagbar ist.

Dr. phil. Justinus Pieper ist Historiker, Soziologe und Politikwissenschaftler. 2013 erhielt er eine Exzellenzauszeichnung an der HWR Berlin.
