The day marked the start of an exciting semester for students from all over the world who are preparing for new academic challenges and Berlin city life.

In addition to basic information on organisational procedures for studying and the important first steps concerning German bureaucracy, there was also the opportunity to make initial contacts. The day focussed on insights into the academic challenges ahead as well as practical tips for life in Berlin.

In addition, an extensive programme of activities aimed at introducing the exchange students to Berlin's culture and history was presented. Highlights include a boat tour through historic Berlin, a guided tour along the former Berlin Wall and participation in numerous exhibitions. These events offer students the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into German history and culture and to get to know each other better.

As usual, students also participated in the popular campus tours aimed to help new students find their way around the campus and give them a first impression of their new study environment.

For the first time, there is also a campus scavenger hunt, which enables exchange students to explore the Schöneberg campus and its surroundings in an interactive and entertaining way using an app. Not only do they get to know the most important places and contacts, but they also receive valuable tips for daily life around the campus.

Overall, the Welcome Day offered the exchange students an excellent opportunity to get in the mood for their semester at the HWR Berlin and make their first contacts. During the subsequent 3-week intensive German course, the new exchange students have many further opportunities to get to know their fellow students and their new surroundings – and of course, to gain some language skills. The next few weeks will also be characterised by exciting activities that will help the students to discover Berlin and its rich history.
