10 years of the Safe City Course at HWR Berlin
This winter term, HWR Berlin is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Safe City Course, which provides international students with valuable safety tips and insights into Berlin's history.
On 5th September 2024, the anniversary course took place under the direction of Prof. Dr Christian Matzdorf, with around 160 participants from all over the world.
Safe through Berlin: knowledge meets history
The Safe City course combines safety tips for everyday life in the capital with historical and tourist information. Students are given an insight into different parts of Berlin, such as Mitte, Kreuzberg and Charlottenburg, and are given tips on safe routes and behaviour. At the same time, they are introduced to the city's history in order to deepen their cultural understanding. The aim is to support the participants in their new environment and prepare them for the challenges of a big city, without stifling their spirit of discovery.
Success story: safety meets the joy of discovery
Since 2014, the course has established itself as an integral part of the HWR Berlin programme and is highly valued by international students. Prof. Dr Christian Matzdorf points out: "Berlin offers countless opportunities, but also challenges. The Safe City course helps you to experience the city safely".
With its proven concept, the Safe City Course will remain a central component of HWR Berlin's international profile for years to come.
