The HWR Berlin welcomes 226 international exchange students
In-person campus tours, cultural activities across Berlin and classroom teaching – all this awaits this semester’s cohort of 226 exchange students studying at all five of the HWR Berlin’s departments.
Featuring 45 different nationalities, the students from the HWR Berlin’s network of 170 partner universities are for the first time since Summer Semester 2020 able to attend class and the orientation programme offered by the HWR Berlin’s International Office in person.
The exchange students are participating in small groups in a German language preparatory course on campus. The in-person teaching allows them to practice their German in real-life settings, therefore preparing them for the semester ahead.
While the HWR Berlin is of course delighted to be able to welcome students back to campus for in-person teaching, ensuring the safety of students and staff is of course vital. Therefore all teaching and events are being held in line with the HWR Berlin’s pandemic plan allowing students to enjoy a safe on-campus experience.
Meeting fellow exchange students in a social setting is of course also a key part of any international exchange and this cohort has been able to take full advantage of a varied cultural programme in small group activities including a boat tour of Berlin and guided tour of the Berlin Wall and museums such as the Futurium and Palace of Tears.
In order to ensure students who could not arrive in Berlin in September for various reasons such as delays to visa issuance related to COVID-19 travel restrictions also have the chance to connect with their fellow students, virtual hangouts are being held and all major orientation events were held online. The Incoming Team at the International Office also offers a virtual Welcome Point via MS Teams which exchange students can visit virtually for support and advice.
The International Office is of course also looking forward to sending out even more HWR Berlin students to our international partner universities for an exchange semester in the coming semesters. HWR Berlin students can find out more about studying abroad at the International Days for the Department of Business and Economics on November 3rd and 4th and for students at Campus Lichtenberg on October 27th.
